|Why I Paint
The natural world surrounding me is my favourite subject matter, which I sometimes interpret with nature’s own vivid hues, and other times with a strictly limited palette, attempting to capture the subtleties of form, light and shadow without the distraction of colour.
We currently spend most of our time at our pre-Confederation farm near the Bay of Quinte, where there are many gorgeous Ontario vistas to paint, from the rolling farmland surrounding us, to the scenic views and shores of Lake Ontario.
I was introduced to painting the beauty of the East Coast through one of my teachers, Chinkok Tan (Ontario College of Art and Design). I spent several summers travelling to Grand Manan Island with friends to paint outdoors in one of my favourite places on earth. Those yearly painting retreats have continued, but closer to home for the last few summers, on a scenic property near a beach in Prince Edward County.
I am a founding member of Hartworks Artists Cooperative, and when in Toronto I paint at our Hartworks studio in Leaside. My paintings, mostly oil or acrylic on canvas, hang in clients’ homes and offices throughout both Canada and the United States.
I am represented by Susan Phillips at Simply Serendipity (simplyserendipity.ca).
